Cycling and Walking in and around Petersfield

Being located in the Western Weald, and as the Gateway to the South Downs National Park, Petersfield presents many opportunities for cycling and walking, both formal and informal. In the bookshops you will find a plentiful supply of walking books giving personal views on local, and long distance walks, and online there are many resources and organisations to be found.

Rightbike Petersfield (Owens Cycles) can be found just a mile or so from the town centre in Steep.  Visit their site here.

Southern e-bike Rentals are situated at Queen Elizabeth Country Park, just a few miles south of Petersfield. Visit their site here

Sustrans – the National Cycle Network. The NCN route 22 passes through Petersfield, whilst route 222 commences (or finishes, depending on your direction of travel) on the South side of the town.

Long Distance walking routes passing close to or through Petersfield

There are 5 long distance walking routes easily accessible from Petersfield, each being segmented into easily achievable stretches. 

Shipwrights Way

A 50-mile long distance path for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders

Hangars Way

The Hangers Way passes along a series of steep-sided wooded hills

Staunton Way

A 8.5 to 20.5 mile route from Queen Elizabeth Country Park, to Staunton Country Park near Havant.

South Downs Way

The trail runs for 160 km from Winchester in Hampshire to Eastbourne in East Sussex
