Drawing from the Subconscious Workshop with Richenda Court

Date

10 Aug 2024

Time

10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Tap into your imagination and learn how artists are inspired by the subconscious, taking inspiration from the inner self which becomes the foundation of their work.

Join us for a one-day workshop exploring the practice of drawing from the subconscious taking inspiration by artists, paintings and sculptures in our exciting summer exhibition, Peggy Guggenheim: Petersfield to Palazzo.

Workshop Details

Led by artist Richenda Court A.R.E., the morning session will focus on generating ideas and exploring 3-4 featured artworks in the exhibition for inspiration. Time will be dedicated to observing and sketching the works for reference.

The afternoon session will be focused on creating a variety of drawings and making individual small concertina sketchbooks of drawings.

Tutor and artist Richenda Court will be showing samples of her daily subconscious drawings and sharing how his technique becomes the foundation of a print.

Other Information:
  • If you have them, please bring along drawing materials, sketchbooks or any ideas which may feel suitable.

  • All materials are included.
About Richenda Court:

Richenda trained in fine art and contemporary dance at Brighton University, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and Morley College.

Richenda is a full-time printmaker. Her prints are inspired by fluid detailed line drawings; progressing subconscious idea’s not knowing where they may lead. This process is the foundation of her practice.

In 2021 Richenda was made an associate member of the Royal Society of Painters and Printmakers and this summer elected to the Council. Her work can be found in the Ashmolean Museum, V & A Museum and British Library. Richenda has exhibited extensively in the UK including Bankside Gallery, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Royal Society of British Artists at the Mall Galleries.

Richenda has taught printmaking for over twenty years and is a Printmaking Lecturer at Morley College, London. Richenda has also lead workshops at Bankside Gallery, The Lightbox Woking, Preston Manor High School, Westminster School, Hammersmith and Ochre Print Studio, Guildford.
