Grayshott Folk Club welcomes back:
The Leisure Society
+ The Arford Belles

MONDAY 22ND APRIL 2024 @ 7.30PM

Grayshott Village Hall, Headley Road, Grayshott, Nr. HINDHEAD, Surrey GU26 6TZ

Very few bands (if any), can boast (not that The Leisure Society are the sort to boast), that TWO tracks;

“The Last Of The Melting Snow”:
and “Save It For Someone Who Cares”:
from their debut album (“The Sleeper”-2009), were both nominated for Ivor Novello Awards.

And so it was, that The Leisure Society set their song writing and production standards incredibly high from the very outset and they have managed to maintained them ever since. They quickly drew admiration from the likes of Brian Eno, Dermot O’Leary and Guy Garvey of Elbow as well as Radcliffe and Maconie on 6Music. And all of these guys know a thing or two about music…….

Here at Grayshott Folk Club HQ, TLS are one of our favourite Indie Pop/Folk bands and we’ve followed them down to Devon, up to Brighton and all the way back to Grayshott Village Hall GU26 6TZ where one of our proudest moments to date, was seeing and hearing The Leisure Society play live for us on Saturday 21st September 2019. They were brilliant that night and we are beside ourselves that they are finally coming back to play for us again!

The Leisure Society have collaborated and toured with artists including;
Ray Davies (The Kinks), Brian Eno, Laura Marling, Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy), Richard Thompson,
Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott (The Beautiful South).

TLS were founded in 2006 by Nick Hemming, who grew up in Burton-on-Trent and everything changed for him when he moved into the London flat of fellow Burton-on-Trent exile Christian Hardy, who worked with Nick to develop and record new songs and encouraged him to venture out on stage.

An initial landmark was the single “The Last Of The Melting Snow”, championed by Dermot O’Leary on Radio 2, Radcliffe and Maconie and chosen as one of his records of the year, by Guy Garvey on 6Music.
It remains one of our favourite Winter songs and was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award in 2009.

The Leisure Society will be visiting Grayshott as part of their “Into The Arms of Hope” Tour 2024. Their sixth studio album has been delayed by Covid but bit by bit, they are assembling another masterpiece.

Founding members Nick Hemming, Christian Hardy and violinist Mike Siddell will play favourites from a highly-regarded songbook that spans five albums (from 2009’s “The Sleeper” to 2019’s “Arrivals & Departures”) plus a selection of newer songs, written during and after lockdown.

Nick Hemming promises an “open-ended and intimate” night for fans, following the “incredibly uplifting” string of dates the band performed in November 2023. Loyal followers were rewarded when the band released a new single in 2023. “Brave Are The Waves” features their long time admirer and friend, Brian Eno.
