Getting outside with the family

Wanting to get out of the house with the kids now the weather is warming up? We have just the thing! A collection of local attractions to get outside and enjoy a fun day out with the family.

The Heath

Near the centre of town is The Heath, a perfect little getaway for all ages. A 22 acre pond filled with ducks and swans to watch forage for food near the banks. And if you’re feeling brave enough, you can even hand feed them with bags of seed available to buy from the Plump Duck cafe. After a walk around the water and a play on the newly refurbished playground, you can stop off for a fresh toastie and a coffee at the Plump Duck, a cosy little cafe with new outdoor and indoor seating for all weathers. 

Woods Meadow

With a wonderful new custom, artificial basketball and football pitch, Woods Meadow is a secluded park with a trickling stream and huge, open spaces to run freely. With an enclosed soft playground area for younger ones and another for the daredevils, this is the perfect park for all ages and abilities.

Taro park Penns Place sports facilities

A large open space for running and walking around with a nice flat curved path, perfect for learning how to ride a bike or even just a joyride. Nearer the leisure centre is a smaller play area, supplied by the council, perfect for a fun pitstop mid walk. The Taro is also used every June for the Petersfield Town Juniors Football club’s six-a-side tournaments. This well attended event is open to all, come down in the Summer to watch the teams compete. 

Queen Elizabeth Country Park

Queen Elizabeth Country Park is over 2000 acres of beautiful forests and land to explore. You can follow the trails from the top of Butser Hill, the highest point in the South Downs, down to the visitor centre. Discover the beauty amongst nature and explore the wonderful wildlife and flora. Then head down to the cafe and shop and sit down for a coffee or hot chocolate and maybe even a delicious sweet treat after that long walk. 

Alice Holt

Alice Holt has something for everyone! A perfect den building area to fulfil your explorer desires, hidden climbing frames, Gruffalo sculptures scattered around and a big pirate themed playground. Filled with trails and paths for those long walks exploring the tranquil woods and looking for wildlife and a perfect open picnic area and cafe to sit back and relax with the family. Finally for those daredevils looking for an adrenaline boost you can experience life in the trees in their Go Ape experience for all ages!
