Welcome to autumn, the season of cosy flavours and local harvests! In this post, we’re spotlighting some cafes, restaurants, farm shops and pubs that celebrate fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced produce in and around Petersfield. Grab a warm drink, get comfy, and let’s explore all the delicious ways to savour the season.
📍 18a Lavant Street, Petersfield
🥧 Star Dish: Chicken & Cranberry Pie
“Our star dish is our chicken, ham, pistachio and cranberry pie. Choose it as part of our deli lunch plate or whatever you want from our range in the deli counter. We also have quiche, spanakopita, frittata and so much more to enjoy with a selection of our daily salads. The choices are endless! Everything is made in our kitchen in Steep Marsh by our team of chefs and assistants. £10.50 and you have a wholesome meal!”

🥣 Star Dish: Ginger’s Golden Turmeric Soup
😋 Our Pick: Spiced Pumpkin Pie
“Our star dish is Ginger’s Golden Turmeric Soup. This immune boosting soup is full to the brim with golden goodness, including; ginger, garlic, seasonal root vegetables, organic stock, organic cider vinegar, organic coconut milk, and of course lots of turmeric! This creates beautifully silky, thick golden soup. Topped with toasted seeds and a drizzle of virgin olive oil. Soups are a great way to tackle food waste and make the most of our seasonal produce. We use Bryant Bros from Liss Forest, who champion local growers when the produce us available. We have also recently added Hampshire Market Garden to our list of local supplier’s, who fiercely promote their no dig and organic way of growing food. Just as it should be!”
Now for dessert! Our pick is the Spiced Pumpkin Pie, comforting and perfectly balancing sweetness and spice. Plus, Ginger’s is always freshly homemade. The cafe is nestled within a charming bookshop, so why not pick up some Christmas gifts while you’re there?

📍 10 Lavant Street, Petersfield
😋 Our Pick: Pan Roasted Lamb Rump
A cherished Petersfield establishment, Annie Jones is known for its strong support of local suppliers, use of seasonal ingredients, and classic french (ish) twist! We’ve chosen to highlight their pan roasted lamb rump dish with braised neck, spring onion purée, potato terrine, broad beans, samphire & jus. Did you know that autumn is the perfect time to enjoy lamb, as the meat is especially tender and flavourful after a summer of rich grazing?

📍 6 High Street, Petersfiel
😋 Our Pick: Baked Brixham Scallop & Fowey Mussel Gratin
Restaurant Six on the high street combines the finest seasonal British ingredients with Mediterranean flavours. The dish standing out to us is the baked Brixham scallop & Fowey mussel gratin with a coconut, ginger & garlic cream, and scallop roe crumb. In autumn, scallops and mussels are at their peak in the UK, as cooler waters enhance their flavour and quality, so it’s no wonder this is on the menu!

📍 West Harting, Petersfield
😋 Our Pick: Venison Bourguignon
Family-run deer farm Sky Park Farm is home to herds of majestic red, white and sika deer. And also features an adventure playground, picnic areas, farm shop, cafe and restaurant. Red deer are currently in season and we love the sound of the venison bourguignon; braised venison, red wine sauce, baby onions, mashed potato & baguette half.

📍 46 Station Rd, Liss
📍 Petersfield Market, Weds & Sat 08:00 – 15:00
🥩 Star Dish: Oxtail Stew
“Our star dish is Oxtail stew, or any beef stew really! Sourced from farms within 25 miles of Petersfield. Reared on the South Downs grass for their whole life, purely grass fed or silage during the winter months which is cut and fermented grass. They have a great coating of fat and as we all know, fat is where the flavour is! A stew allows that to break down and enhance the flavour, particularly if you have some bone in the mix as the collagen and marrow is great for flavour and health benefits. Perfectly paired with a portion of local seasonal root veg, we usually get ours from Bryant Bros at the Petersfield market.”

📍 Priors Dean, Petersfield
😋 Our Pick: Sunday Roast
Autumn wouldn’t be complete without a Sunday roast. Family run, 17th century Inn, The Pub with No Name, serves real ale and local produce. The slow roasted suckling pig with burnt apple purée or vegan nut roast are our choices this autumn. Enjoy them by the fire at this cosy pub in Priors Dean.
