The little market town is crammed full of foodie spots and with summer on our doorstep, what better a place to picnic in! Come fully equipped with a homemade spread or grab a gourmet takeaway lunch from one of the cafés in town and head to one of our top choice picnic spots – bon appetit!
St Peter’s Church Yard
The picnic: Pop along to one of Petersfield’s Wednesday or Saturday markets and grab yourself some uber tasty local produce to make yourself a homemade lunch that even a Michelin chef would be in awe of!
The picnic spot: From The Square, head directly towards the Church and follow the path to the southside of the building where, once adjacent to St Peter’s Road, a sunny spot can be found. An atmosphere that is nothing but peaceful and on occasions you may even be able to hear choristes or bellringers practicing.
The Heath
The picnic: Head to the Plump Duck, and order one of their freshly-made paninis (our recommendation is their Brie & Bacon one) and a cool can.
The picnic spot: Ask just about any local in Petersfield, and they would tell you to go straight to Petersfield Heath for your picnic – and to go for a walk to burn off your wholesome lunch after. With its picturesque, lake-sized pond boasting proud at its heart and boardwalk loop complete with aquatic wildlife and flora, it’s definitely worth a visit.
The Physic Garden
The picnic: There’s nothing better than fresh-to-order classic deli sandwiches in a picnic? Why not go to Madeleine’s Kitchen and try their Hot Salt Beef on Rye or Tuna Mayonnaise with a cup of their utterly irresistible coffee.
The picnic spot: For a quieter picnicking spot, half way along the High Street you will find a hidden, volunteer-tended oasis off the beaten track. Complete with sunny spots, and beautiful beds and borders – take a seat on a bench within the grounds. Don’t forget, this is charitably run, so please remember to leave a donation if you can.
