From tasty treats to hidden gems, Petersfield is packed with amazing independent businesses serving up delicious food and drink – perfect for grabbing on the go. With so many beautiful green spaces, parks, and countryside spots right on our doorstep, there’s no better excuse to enjoy a picnic outdoors.
To make it even easier, we’ve been visiting some of our favourite local places and sharing short videos across our social media, giving you plenty of inspiration for your next day out.

Cantina Rosita is a small, independent café tucked away on Folly Lane, known for its relaxed atmosphere and planet-friendly approach to hospitality. Their menu celebrates the vibrant flavours of Latin American and Eastern Mediterranean cuisine, all freshly made and full of flavour. For our Petersfield Picnic, we enjoyed empanadas, a Latin chicken salad, Latin totopos, drinks, and a slice of cake – the perfect spread to take away and enjoy outdoors.

Butser Hill is one of the most iconic spots near Petersfield, just a 10-minute drive from town. Part of the South Downs National Park, it offers sweeping views, wide open spaces, and plenty of peaceful spots to roll out a blanket. It’s the perfect location for a Petersfield Picnic, whether you’re after a quiet escape, a family day out, or just want to soak up one of the best views in Hampshire.

Hoxton Bakehouse has become a firm favourite in Petersfield, known for its proper sourdough bread and delicious pastries, all handmade with care. For our picnic, we grabbed a freshly baked cinnamon bun, a Reuben toastie, and an iced coffee - the perfect balance of indulgent and satisfying. With food this good, it’s easy to see why Hoxton has built such a loyal following, and their treats are ideal for taking out into one of Petersfield’s many green spaces to enjoy.

Bell Hill Recreation Ground & Common is another great open space in Petersfield, just a short walk from the town centre. With plenty of room to stretch out, a brilliant play area for families, and open views to enjoy, it’s a lovely spot for a relaxed picnic. The space also hosts the annual bonfire and fireworks display each November, making it a well-loved part of the community throughout the year.

Chinwags is Petersfield’s oldest sandwich bar, tucked away in the heart of The Folly Market. A much-loved spot run by Alma, it’s the place to go for freshly made sandwiches, baguettes, cakes, pastries, tea and coffee. We picked up a classic BLT sandwich along with a rich brownie and a refreshing San Pellegrino - the perfect picnic combo and a reminder of why this hidden gem has been a favourite in town for so many years.

The Heath is often described as the jewel in Petersfield’s crown. Just a short walk from the town centre, it’s a much-loved green space with a large pond, plenty of room to explore, and a play area for families. Whether you’re walking, relaxing by the water, or picking up a snack from the kiosk, it’s the perfect spot to spend a sunny afternoon - and an ideal place for a picnic.

Up next in our Petersfield Picnic campaign is the Natural Food Deli, who created a vibrant salad box paired with a refreshing smoothie. Known for their fresh, wholesome food, the deli is a favourite for those looking for healthy and delicious options to enjoy on the go. Want to order this delicious lunch? Just a short walk away, we chose to enjoy this picnic in the Physic Garden, a beautiful walled space filled with medicinal plants and carefully tended borders. The garden offers a calm and peaceful setting right in the heart of Petersfield, making it the perfect spot to pause, step away from the bustle of town, and enjoy something nourishing in a truly tranquil environment.

For our next picnic, we picked up a tasty selection from Madeleine’s Deli. They can be found on Lavant Street in the heart of Petersfield, they are well known for its excellent coffee and generous deli sandwiches. It’s a much-loved spot in town, perfect for picking up something fresh and delicious before heading out for a picnic

High Meadow is a peaceful green space just a short walk from the centre of Petersfield, tucked to the side of the hospital with lovely views across to Butser Hill. It’s an ideal spot for a picnic, with plenty of space to relax and stretch your legs. Originally gifted to the Town Council by the Townsend family in 1945, it was given on the condition that it would remain open space for the community, meaning it has been preserved as a welcoming and unspoiled place for everyone to enjoy ever since.
