Unveiling the History and Success of Petersfield in Bloom

Petersfield in Bloom is an annual event that transforms our charming town into a vibrant tapestry of colour. This cherished tradition brings residents and businesses together to celebrate our love of gardening and commitment to a beautiful environment.

Petersfield in Bloom is more than just a competition; it’s a cherished tradition that celebrates community spirit. It’s been running for 35 years, starting in 1988. It was part of a wider effort called Pride in Petersfield, aimed at enhancing the town’s overall appearance. The very first initiative of Petersfield in Bloom was to encourage businesses to display hanging baskets, adding a touch of floral charm to the streets.

The competition has grown significantly since its humble beginnings, now featuring up to 14 categories, each with awards sponsored by local businesses, organisations, and individuals.

Petersfield’s dedication to floral excellence has been recognised in prestigious competitions. They’ve achieved impressive results at the Southern England In Bloom competition, winning their class three times (1992, 2000, and 2002).

In 1998, Petersfield represented Southern England in the Britain in Bloom competition, securing a remarkable runner-up position. This achievement is a testament to the town’s commitment to creating a beautiful environment.

In 2023, Petersfield in Bloom welcomed esteemed gardener, broadcaster, and author Alan Titchmarsh MBE DL as its new patron. This exciting development builds upon the legacy established by previous president Pippa Greenwood, a renowned gardening expert. Additionally, local resident and award-winning gardener Steve Amos joined as vice president, bringing his expertise and enthusiasm to the event.
