It’s always important to support small and local businesses, and this Christmas even more so! Many businesses in our little market town can offer almost everything and anything you need from bakeries, coffee shops, estate agents, wine merchants, opticians and artisan shops, there really is a plethora of choices. Did you know that over 70 businesses in Petersfield are independent which in turn can also mean more sustainable – meaning that your presents can have a small impact on the planet, while having a large impact on local communities. Plus there’s a lot of little festive events going on creating a real hive of activity…

Elf on a shelf trail

Building upon its runaway success, The Naughty Elf on a Shelf Trail in Petersfield will return this winter. Excited children, following a trail around the town with their parents, will have the chance to spot these cheeky little elves on the shelves of shops in town. Hector’s Menswear in Chapel Street, have created an experience that allows adults to battle some of their Christmas shopping whilst occupying little ones. Last year they received incredible feedback, with many shoppers commenting “they have now discovered new stores and it has opened their eyes to what is available in Petersfield – there’s no need to go further afield for your Christmas shopping!”. To get a trail map, email Hectors on or call 07305 899573.

Petersfield Christmas Festival

Since its establishment over a decade ago, the Petersfield Christmas Festival has become a firm favourite amongst the local community – with an ever growing following, the Petersfield Community Events headed up by Ben Errey and Steve Jacob provide the town with a fun filled day of festivities. A visitor can expect everything from: Awesome stalls and shops to buy that perfect gift for loved ones…Local butchers taking festive orders…Local nurseries to buy your Christmas tree from…Children singing Christmas carols…Fantastic rides and play areas for young and old alike…A bar stocked with mulled wine, and..maybe even a visit from Father Christmas himself…Not to mention, mince pies in abundance!

This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills, create something special for Christmas, and spend time with your friends and family in the beautiful setting of Chawton House.

Ticket cost includes all materials, equipment, mince pies and mulled wine.

They make a positive impact on the local economy. Small, local businesses encourage local spending and for other businesses to open in the area, drawing more entrepreneurship in and boosting local development. This helps the whole local community prosper and benefits local residents.

You make a difference to someone’s life. Online shopping may well be convenient but it doesn’t have the impact that local, small business shopping can have – isn’t it nice to buy something that contributes to their livelihood.

And finally, it creates a personal relationship. It is an (almost) impossible task to form an awesome relationship with a faceless corporation, but shopping locally and from small businesses can be incredibly rewarding, as you can get to know the people who run the business.
