Visit Petersfield's outdoor event picks of the month

Here are a few of our favourite outdoor themed events and activities from our “What’s On” page this August. Now the weather is warming up again, why not get outside and enjoy some of the wonderful events Petersfield and surrounding villages have to offer.

The South Downs Show – 12th and 13th August

Hometown Events are thrilled to be bringing The South Downs Show back again for 2023!

The show will include everything from awesome arena acts, entertaining attractions, dog shows, animal petting zoo, children’s rides and fun zone, country life stalls, beer tent and catering with live music and much much more…

So many attractions and displays are included in the admission price with a totally awesome day to be had without the need to spend any more although the choices of food and drink on offer you may not be able to resist.

The show is very animal focused and will include dog displays, dog trials as well as dog agility activities and so please look out for more info on how to book a place for your dog to join in… or they are more than welcome to just come along and enjoy the show!

Teddy Bears Picnic at Sky Park farm – 14th August

Their family-friendly Deer Ranger, Emily, will host picnics at 10:30 and 12:45 on Monday 14th August. Little picnic participants will meet at the Visitor Centre and stroll through the Deer Park to their Dew Pond* where the group will play games and enjoy their picnic lunch.

Picnic sessions will last for one hour. Tickets cost £10 per child and include a picnic lunch (dairy-free and vegetarian options available), plus day access for ticketed children to the Adventure Playground, Deer Park and Easter Egg Trail. Advance booking is required. Parents, guardians and non-participating children will require tickets to the Deer Park.

*Weather permitting the sessions will be held outdoors. Should the weather not be suitable Teddy Bears’ Picnic sessions will take place in the Deer Hub.

Bird of Prey Walk – 24th August

Join Anita from Hampshire Hawk Walks once a month for a Bird of Prey Walk around the beautiful Chawton estate.Start your Thursday with a relaxing walk through the picturesque parkland, where Anita will point out the native wildlife and show the historic features that decorate the landscape. You can also enjoy the view as one of Anita’s Harris Hawks flies through the trees. Once you have finished your walk, relax in the historic setting of Chawton House’s Old Kitchen and enjoy a delicious English Breakfast with tea or coffee.

Steep Flower Show – 26th August

At Bedales School from 14.00 – 16.00. This village event has been at the centre of the village calendar for over a hundred years and will again be showing off all it has to offer. So, ink the date into your diary and bring your friends and family to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere, flowers, vegetables, fruit, art, photos, crafts, music from the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, raffle, tombola, outdoor games, produce stall and of course… lots of yummy cake!

Bat Night – 28th August

Follow in the footsteps of Gilbert White and his discoveries of the Noctule bat with Hampshire Bat Group’s Nik Knight. Learn more about the local bat population and head out into the sunset with detectors to discover the nocturnal life of Selborne. This event includes outdoor activity including a walk in the relative dark so please come dressed appropriately for the weather and the time of year, with sturdy footwear and a torch. If booking for children, please make sure that for every 3 children 1 adult is present. Ticket Price: £12 an adult, £8 under 18s (Warm drinks and biscuits included)
