It’s cosy season, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors! Why not wrap up warm and head out to explore the hidden gem of Petersfield? Nestled in the heart of the South Downs, our charming market town has everything you need for a memorable winter escape. Picture frosty morning walks through breathtaking countryside, followed by a warming lunch in a friendly restaurant. This itinerary will show you how to have a perfect winter day in Petersfield.

First things first, where are we located? Petersfield is in Hampshire, South East England. Our town sits roughly halfway between Portsmouth and Guildford, making it easily accessible by road and rail – just an hour’s train journey from London!

There are lots of car parking options available in town. We highly recommend using the Festival Hall Car Park as a brilliant central car park for both long and short-stay parking. Also, top tip: Tesco Car Park has a very easy walking route into the centre of town between Hylton Road and St Peter’s Road (next to the Museum!).

Petersfield is well connected, being on the edge of the South Downs National Park and on the main A3(M) London to Portsmouth motorway. We also have a mainline railway between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour.
Now onto the good stuff. We’ve planned a winter day out just for you, we hope you enjoy!

Petersfield Heath and Pond is the destination for a winter walk, with peaceful trails and beautiful views around the pond. The crisp air and quiet surroundings make it a great place to enjoy nature and relax. Dogs encouraged!

No winter walk is complete without a hot drink. The Plump Duck is a delightful waterside café offering both outdoor seating and a covered area, making it an ideal pit stop before continuing your stroll.

Petersfield town centre is only a 7-minute walk from the heath. Cosy up in Stables Wine Bar & Kitchen, an inviting and characterful little restaurant with many delicious dishes to choose from.

📍Petersfield Museum & Art Gallery
There’s always something beautiful, thought-provoking or down right fun at our museum and art gallery. Current exhibitions include The South Downs Open which showcases nearly 150 artworks by over 120 artist who are inspired by the South Downs region, and The Horsewoman – two superb riding outfits from the early twentieth century are on display from the museum’s Fashion and Textiles Collection.

Round the day off with a sweet treat at Meg’s Kitchen. Choose from big scones with jam and clotted cream to a variety of homemade cakes and much more. Whether you’re after something indulgent or a lighter bite, there’s something to satisfy every craving in this cosy café.
Come and enjoy a perfect winter day out in our lovely town – you won’t be disappointed! For more events, take a look at our What’s On page.
